I’m thinking about structures of order and control, and how they try to fix and contain what can’t be.

Rather than extending this thought into something monumental, I’ve kept this work within a scale that can be approached and understood by a single body. Moving between an evocation of internal infrastructures and spiritual apparatus,  Quiet, Not Dramatic  plays with the sense of an exposed portion of something larger and functional, but not fully legible.

Internally, this work is largely made out of cardboard, foam and wire. It’s strong, but still posing as stable. Confetti, the ritualized paper aftermath of celebration, is used as a surfacing skin. Pressed and sealed, still. On the ground, in a kind of procession, concrete casts of balloons containing a single breath sit alongside empty paper molds of those same forms. Smaller concrete forms squeezed into small fist sized lumps, are arranged alongside. As structural cousins of cast breath, they wait politely in a composition that both organizes and symbolizes, however arbitrarily and in varying degrees of permanence.
