Concrete, Like Breath, 2025
Installation view, I body, Cevera Yoon, Los Angeles, 2025. Work by Masha Sheinina visible in background.
This work is not fixed in a singular orientation, but instead consists of components to be continuously reoriented, through volition and consideration of place. It was created by first filling balloons with one sustained exhale and wrapping them in paper mache. Once dry, the resulting paper vessels were filled with concrete and attached to one another with soft copper piping. The paper skin was peeled back, and my breath became evidence, heavy and structural. Surrounding these concrete spheres are bone-like lattices, shaped and membraned with paper, fiberglass and more paper. They function as both frame and skin, rigid and exposed, yet vulnerable to gentle dissolve, warping and bleaching in light and heat and water as the installation continues. Cuts of canvas the size of lottery tickets were bingo-daubbed until the ink ran out, and strewn around the breath and body of the work. They’ll be the first to go in the sun. Chance, change, game. Their presence is incidental and deliberate, a record of risk and repetition.
